The collection of the so-called ‘Mutiny Papers’ in the record holdings of the National Archives of India, Regional Office, Bhopal is an invaluable historical source material on the events connected with the India’s War of Independence, 1857-58. This collection consists of about ten thousand documents which are mainly in Persian but some are in Urdu cursive style of writing.
The documents covered in this volume throw light on the siege of Gwalior by the insurgent forces and its subsequent recapture; reinstallation of Maharaja Sindhia, an ally of the British, on the throne of Gwalior with the help of the British forces; victory over Jhansi and the fall of Rani of Jhansi; an eye-witness account of Delhi during 1857 from the day first when the so-called mutineers from Meerut arrived in Delhi and started indiscriminate killing of the British; recapture of Delhi by the British forces; mass killing, mass exodus and destruction of houses and buildings in walled city of Delhi; to name a few instances
Present volume is almost word for word translation of Persian and Urdu text of Mutiny Papers; a complete description of each and every document included in this volume from F.No 171 to F.No 250, consisting of 90 Files which cover almost 1000 documents..

Muzaffar-e-Islam, Assistant Director of AD (OR) took up this daunting task of translation single-handedly with total dedication and devotion.
