Starting from the sale of rare and out of print publications in 1969 we now publish 40-45 original titles every year in the field of social sciences with a focus on India in particular and South Asia in general.

As a publisher, we have continually sought to expand our list of publications. We publish in the field of History, Politics, Sociology, Art, Archaeology, Anthropology, Economics, Indology, Religion, Philosophy etc. In other words our publications range from Art and Architecture to Women’s Studies.

Apart from publishing books by individual authors (Indian and foreign) we have tie-ups with several prestigious institutions in India and abroad -- among others, the American Institute of Indian Studies,the Nehru Memorial Museum & Library, the South Asia Institute of Heidelberg University ,the Centre for Sciences Humaines (Delhi).

Our authors are drawn from virtually every country of South Asia, from Japan, Australia, the U.S., Canada and several European countries. We invite authors to send publishing proposals for our consideration.

Manohar maintains a full editorial capacity, and arranges for the refereeing of submitted manuscripts. A preliminary evaluation will be completed within four weeks. The refereeing process takes approximately three months. The letter of acceptance will be accompanied by our house style sheet.

From the beginning, our showroom was not only a place where one could just browse and buy, but a meeting place for Indian and foreign scholars. We have over 30,000 books in stock.

We are open from 9.00 to 6.30, Monday through Saturday. We are closed on Sundays and holidays.
