This book explores the role played by the British Perceptions on Indian cultural and Indian Soldiers in the formation of English East Indian Company`s sepoy army in the second half of the eighteenth century . It examine the influence of British perceptions on the sepony`s place from the barrack room to the battlefield demonstrating that prejudice was a cornerstone in the making of the Company`s Indian Army. Wickremesekera fills up a historiographical gap by turning the spotilight on the period which witnessed the emergence of the sepony army . Instead of merely concentrating on social and cultural aspects of the military as is the fashion now . Wickremesekera deserves our praise for turning our focus again into histoire bataille`. A historiographical gap is filled by Wickremesekera through his analysis of a period which witnessed the genesis of the sepoy army. (The Telegraph) This book is based on western primer and secondary sources and provides yet another reason why Indians must start putting down on paper our history ,for posterity, so that they can judge it fairly . An interesting peep back into the past for the soldier and the civilian alike.
